Home / 5 helpful tips to keep your glass fence clean
Having a clean glass pool fence is vital to the safety and visual appearance of your space – especially for pool areas.
It enables you to enjoy a seamless, uninterrupted view of your surroundings, making it easy to keep an eye on pool occupants at all times. Furthermore, a clean glass pool fence helps make your space feel bigger and more open, as the crystal-clear panels blend in better with the rest of the scenery.
But what exactly should you do to keep your glass fence clean? Fortunately, the process is quick and easy, and you don’t need any expensive equipment either. Here’s how to do it.
Yep, it’s that easy. Just grab a common garden hose, and spray both sides of the glass fence. The moisture will be enough to lift most light stains off the surface, making it an easy and inexpensive way to keep your glass fence clean.
Of course, for more stubborn stains, you’ll need to get a bit more involved.
Grab a bucket, fill it with warm water, followed by some mild detergent – like dish soap. Then, scrunch up a piece of newspaper, and use that combined with the mixture to scrub off any stubborn stains.
Why use newspaper to keep your glass fence clean? Because it’s corrosive enough to help lift tough stains, without the risk of scratching. It’s also much cheaper than buying a specialised cloth or scouring pad from the store, too.
It’s unpleasant, yes. But it’s important that you keep an eye out for stains like this. If they’re left to bake in the hot sun for too long, they can cause permanent damage to your glass fence.
When you discover any signs of bird poop, rinse with warm water help to help lift the stain. Then, use a newspaper to scrub it off.
If the stain is particularly stubborn, you may need a specialised glass scraper blade. Just make sure you carefully follow the product instructions, and only purchase a high-quality glass scraper blade with a safety guard attachment, so as to eliminate the risk of scratching.
All frameless glass fencing is installed on to stainless steel balustrades. Although these fixtures are highly resistant to sun exposure and salt water, they can still develop a build-up of grime, dirt, and rust.
By following the same method as before with your glass fence – warm soapy water – this time, use a soft sponge to scrub the balustrades, applying pressure when necessary to particularly stubborn stains.
Regardless of the type of cleaning you do, always rinse off the soap suds with a hose. You don’t want to leave the suds on the surface for too long. Otherwise, the solution may become ‘baked’ on to it, resulting in a permanent mark.
For a clear, streak-free finish, consider using a chamois cloth to rub down the glass panels and balustrades. Although in some cases, you can simply let the fence air dry on its own, producing similar results.
