Home / Why You Should Insist on BlueScope COLORBOND® Steel
It’s no secret that COLORBOND® steel from BlueScope is one of the most popular and enduring building materials found in Australian homes and businesses today.
But why exactly is this the case?
Whether you are in the market for a new steel roof or fence, there are many good reasons why COLORBOND® steel should be the material of choice for your next project. Here are just a few of them.
With a history that dates back over 50 years, BlueScope has invested heavily in the research of development of their steel in order to deliver the best possible product.
So much so, that BlueScope has committed to testing their steel products in a range of different applications – from controlled laboratory tests, to marine tropical and industrial environments through to the harsh desert –, giving customers peace of mind that their investment will last in their own home.
To date, there are over 12,000 panels in exposure across Australia, ranging from light to moderate and extreme conditions. As a result, BlueScope has continued to improve and refine the quality of COLORBOND® steel, creating a durable product that will last (and look good) in even the toughest climates.
Regular cleaning of your COLORBOND® steel fixture is vital to keeping it strong and attractive. Fortunately, doing so is quick and easy.
For most COLORBOND® steel roofs and fences, rainwater can wash away most debris. However, there are some areas of these fixtures – like the top of your garage door, or the underside of your eaves gutter – where rainwater does not reach. Therefore, it is vital that you hose down these unwashed areas on a regular basis. This way, your COLORBOND® steel fixture will continue to impress for many years to come.
Of course, you should also keep away other debris, such as mulch and soil build-up, to ensure that your fence does not rot due to moisture.
To date, there are over 20 unique standard colours to choose from.
Many of these colours are inspired by our own Australian outback, along with classic suburban colours we’ve grown to love. These include classic colours like Cottage Green and Pale Eucalypt, through to more contemporary touches like Ironstone, Shale Grey and Dune, to name a few. Rest assured, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
With so many amazing colours on offer, it’s easy to pick one that matches not just your building, but also the many extra features that bring it all together – such as guttering and fiascas, gates, sheds and more. So, whatever your personal taste or architectural style may be, there’s a colour tone with your name on it.
No matter where you live in Australia, the threat of bushfire is an ongoing concern for many residents. For this reason, it’s worth investing in a product that can help protect your home or business against the elements.
How exactly does COLORBOND® steel perform when rated for fire? According to the CSIRO’S research and investigation team, the results found that, “… a steel fence offers greater protection to people’s homes against bushfire than other alternatives materials because of its non-combustibility”[1]
When exposed to a 30 minute flame immersion test (designed to simulate the effects of an adjacent house fire), the results concluded that pre-painted and metallic coated sheets (the same found in COLORBDOND® steel) performed best under all exposure conditions.
So, if you’re in the market for a quality fence that can help protect your home or business against the threat of bushfire, then COLORBOND® steel is the name you can trust.
