Glass pool fencing is a popular choice as it gives you a wide, panoramic view of your surroundings. Aside from helping you appreciate the scenery better, it also offers security benefits – making it easy to keep an eye on pool occupants.
Frameless glass fencing is the clear winner here, as there are no vertical posts to separate each glass panel. This gives you a complete, uninterrupted view, one that offers you maximum convenience and security.
Framed glass fencing, on the other hand, is separated by vertical posts. While the effect itself is very minimal, the separation between each post is more noticeable. Of course, you still have a very clear view, just that it is slightly less so than a frameless glass fence.
When it comes to frameless vs framed glass pool fencing, cost is a factor. Generally speaking, frameless is the pricier of the two.
Why? Because the glass panels are secured in via durable, stainless steel spigots, which are either bolted on to the ground or in the ground with cement. This configuration is more sophisticated than conventional vertical posts. Therefore, the parts and associated labour is more expensive.
On top of this, frameless glass fencing panels are thicker (12mm), which also increases the cost. Of course, the upside is that frameless glass pool fencing serves as a more seamless, natural extension of your pool area, which is arguably worth the extra cost as it makes your space more visually appealing and inviting.
In terms of safety, both framed and frameless configurations are incredibly safe. While the glass panels are thinner on a framed configuration (8-10mm), these dimensions still meet the AS 1288-2006 standard.
Furthermore, both glass panels are highly durable and – even in the unlikely instance of breakage – designed to shatter as a whole, into neat, even sized pieces, so as to minimise the risk of walking on sharp, jagged edges.
